Wood floors are common in living rooms and bedrooms. They’re often avoided in kitchens because traditional wood floors don’t handle spills very well. However, laminate wood floors give you the appearance of traditional wood floors without the problems traditional wood floors have. Let’s learn about the benefits of laminate floors. We’ll also explain how laminate floors allow you to have the wood floor in your kitchen you’ve always wanted.
Laminate floors are made from composite wood pressed together at high temperatures. Because of this, laminate is more durable to wear and tear than traditional wood panels. For example, it resists scratches. It also resists moisture. That makes laminate wood floors suitable for the average kitchen or bathroom, though traditional wood floors are prone to swelling and cracking in these conditions. Yet you’ll still need to quickly clean up spills. A side benefit of the laminate wood’s texture is that it is easier to clean than traditional wood floors. You can use a mop to clean it in addition to dust mops and brooms.
Laminate flooring has always been affordable. Laminate wood flooring is cheaper than engineered wood floors as well as wood planks. It is also easier to install, reducing the installation cost.
Laminate wood floors may or may not be cheap and easy to repair. This depends on the type of flooring you choose. If you buy laminate floors that come in individual pieces that just snap together, then you can replace the one or two pieces that have warped or burned. In every other case, traditional wood floors are easier to repair, because wood floors can be sanded and refinished. This means you may not want to put laminate floors in high traffic areas, and you’ll still want to protect the floor from scratches as you move furniture. And don’t forget to put rugs down where the dogs like to sleep so their nails don’t scratch up your floor.
No one will know that you chose laminate flooring for kitchens and bathrooms, because it has the same outward appearance as traditional wood floors. You can choose wood laminate that resembles classic oak, aged gray oak, and nearly any other color you choose. It looks like the real thing, and you can choose from a wide array of patterns, shades and textures. A side benefit of this is that you can find wood floors for your kitchen that match the rest of the house.
Note that quality matters. Low quality laminates may have obviously artificial wood grain patterns, and they may wear through sooner than you expect. On the flipside, nearly every laminate floor will resist fading on exposure to sunlight, though the length of time it will retain its color will depend on the quality, as well. Choose a laminate floor with built-in UV protection if you’re going to put it in a room that receives a lot of sunlight.
Laminate wood floors look like traditional hardwood floors, but their design eliminates many of the problems that come with hardwood flooring. If you find the right laminate floors for each room of your house, you’ll enjoy the look of classic wood without the hassle and at a fraction of the price.
