Traditional homes and the decor found in them is often linked to “heavy” and dark interiors, but traditional homes nowadays are much different from how they used to be. Currently, traditional interiors are brighter, bigger and more open. These spaces are often modernized with furniture but without losing their traditional architectural charm.
Completely renovated by Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC, this 1930’s home was once small and outdated. Seeking privacy and location, the owners decided to make this place, their dream home. They asked the architects to design an addition that would meet the needs of their growing family while maintaining the charm and scale of the original home.
Having all the rooms redesigned and completed with traditional moldings and paneling, the house now meets the owners expectations and needs with substance.
Traditional Home with Neutral Interiors
This traditional Colonial home exudes classic, timeless elegance.
The roofing is Timberline asphalt shingles, the color is weathered wood.
Front Door
Front door is a “Simpson” door. The lantern is from Carolina Lantern Company.
Family Room Design
Is there anything better than a roaring fireplace in a chilly day? Just bring me a good book and I can stay here all day…
These chairs are from Lee Industries and the coffee table is from Restoration Hardware.
Light & Bright
This family room has an impressive vaulted ceiling.
The chandelier is the 8 candles Bell from Studio Steel.
The room is about 20′ x 22′.
Furniture
The decor was kept very neutral and calming.
Hutch is from Lilian August and the sofa is from Lee Industries.
The rug is sisal.
Window
Window details: The mullions are about 5″ wide. The casings are 4″ wide and were purchased through Rings End; one of their TJC moldings. (Custom line).
Paint Color: The colors were custom mixed on site, but trims are “Benjamin Moore OC-117 Simply White”.
Similar Wall Paint Color: “Pale Oak OC-20 by Benjamin Moore”.
Kitchen
Who doesn’t love a classic white kitchen, right? This one is spacious and cozy at the same time.
The countertop is absolute black granite with a leathered finish.
The floors are red oak.
White Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color

Laundry Room
I always love seeing well-designed laundry rooms. This one is just perfect!
The backsplash is honed Cararra marble.

The cabinets on the left are about 3′ deep because they house the washer and dryer. They are about 7′-6″ tall.
The paneling is tongue and groove v-groove board.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is all about this very useful and charming built-in. This a great idea when you have very limited closet space.
Sweet Girl
What a delicate bedroom!
The bed was an antique that the owner refinished and reupholstered.
The door closed is a solid core wood doors, and the builder applied panel moldings and mirrors to achieve a “custom” look.
Patio
A spacious patio is highlighted by the charming architecture of this house.

What I like the most about this house is its simplicity… nothing is too complicate.
Don’t we all want to live like that? Less complications, more substance.

Lu querida, que bom que mudou o conceito das casas tradicionais e coloniais. Aquele estilo pesado era muito cansativo, chegando muitas vezes a monotonia. Gosto bem mais assim, espaços clarinhos e amplos.
Beijo querida,
