Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I hope this finds you well and healthy!
I am really excited to be sharing a new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” tour with you and this one feels extra special because it is a breathtaking “Fixer-Upper” renovation by a very talented couple. Jen, of @weremodelit and her husband just had their first born and Jen worked really hard to provide all the information you could possibly ask for on this tour. I feel so grateful to her and Jen’s mom for giving a hand and taking care of her sweet little boy while working on this tour. As they say, it takes a village…
Enjoy the tour, my friends! 🙂
Hi all! I am Jen from @weremodelit and I am so so so excited that Luciane agreed to share my home with you all. My husband Manny and I are from Miami and our families are Cuban. I was actually born in Cuba and migrated here when I was 6 years old. Manny and I have been together since we were 20 years old and finally got married December 2020. In October 2021 we welcome our first son into the world, Dom and we are so obsessed.
So now lets talk about our home. We purchased our home in May of 2020 and we remodeled most of the inside in 6 weeks! We self contracted the work but we demolished the interior of the house ourselves and restructured some areas. Manny also remodeled our previous home and built a brand new construction home in the Florida keys so we had some experience in this type of work.
The house was built in 1977 and I don’t believe it had been remodeled since. The moment I walked into our home I knew it was for us. I knew it so much I made Manny call the previous owner right after we saw it and we made an offer that same night. We redid everything from opening up walls in the kitchen to bathrooms and redoing the master layout of the closet and bathroom too. When it came to decorating I decided to mix the modern farmhouse style with restoration hardware vibes, but for less. I am all about finding things that look expensive but for a good price. I also hunted down great preowned restoration hardware pieces for more than 50% off.
I hope you guys enjoy our home remodel and we can inspire you to see the good in old houses, they have so much potential.Â
“Manny and I are always driving around and looking at houses for sale on Zillow. It’s one of our hobbies. The inspiration behind our home is very California casual. You don’t really see a lot of Miami homes that look like ours. As you will see our home is very black and white. I love it and I believe its just such a classic look.” – Jen from @weremodelit
Driveway: Pavers.
 Exterior “Before” Photo.
“We decided we would resurface the outside of the house and add concrete siding to the front of our house. We changed our windows and doors to high impact because we live in Florida and hurricanes are nothing to mess with and we also decided to go with black-bronze windows because it gave it that modern farmhouse look. Our roof was also redone and it is black metal.” – Jen from @weremodelit
“Our exterior is surrounded by very old Oak trees which just give the place so much charm. This is why we decided to go with a very green, modern, and manicured landscaping. We researched landscaping on pinterest and instagram, chose the plants we loved, and Manny’s mom drew it up for us. We used a combination of porto corpus hedges, black slate rocks, some unique trees and amazing landscape lighting.” – Jen from @weremodelit

“This room is where the most light shines through. We have a big picture window in this room which is a great spot to sit at and watch the squirrels jump from tree to tree outside. This room is actually where I normally bottle feed the baby in the mornings because he can look outside. My favorite feature is the white shiplapped ceiling and black beams. They looked nothing like this before but I had a vision the moment I saw it.”- Jen from @weremodelit

Kitchen Lighting: Chesson 3 – Light Lantern Square Pendant.
“Our kitchen is very open in the middle since we decided to not do the island because it was not going to be as wide as I wanted it to be, but now I love that I can move from sink to stove freely without anything in the middle.” – Jen from @weremodelit

“The dining room in our home is another beautiful space I love but to be honest barely ever gets used. It’s where the boxes and random things end up at. The table was a restoration hardware preowned find. Our carpenter painted it black and I mixed it with neutrals and gold. I enjoy changing it up throughout the seasons and maybe one day I’ll cook a fancy dinner and sit there instead of at the peninsula in the kitchen.”- Jen from @weremodelit

“This is probably one of the most transformed areas in our home. We whitewashed the rocks and built a tv fireplace in the middle of the rock wall. In this space we watch tv and hangout with family and friends when they come over. Our couch is a dupe for the RH Cloud and everyone who comes over just loves the lay on it and says they could easily sleep there.” – Jen from @weremodelit

I love that this room is on the opposite end of the house close to the kitchen and the family room therefore our guests don’t have to use our other bathrooms.” – Jen from @weremodelit

“Ah, our sanctuary! This room is where the magic happens and by that I mean where I get all the sleep I can get before taking care of an infant all day. In this space I wanted to keep the neutrals going to create a cozy and peaceful room. My favorite part of this room is my huge beaded chandelier above the bed. Manny didn’t love it at first but I knew it would make a statement. This room has a lot of light and I also love that I have a view to our patio and pool from the french doors that face the bed. Come on in……” – Jen from @weremodelit

Primary Bathroom “Before” Picture.
“If I tell you this space was nothing like this before it would be hard to explain, but its soooo different. We divided the old closet with old master bath which didn’t feel anything master and turned it into a walk in closet and shower/tub combo for our bathroom. These two areas are divided by a wall and there’s a huge double barn door for each side. I love that we were able to get both a spacious shower and a floating tub which was always my dream to have in a home. We also added wide picture windows, which bring so much light and I also enjoy watching the squirrels jump from tree to tree in the mornings. This bathroom took a bit longer to finish but it was so worth the wait.” – Jen from @weremodelit

“Of course this room is my favorite. It has so much meaning. Every detail was so special. From installing the wallpaper with Manny to picking the sign above the crib. We decided to add the christian fish under Dom’s name because it’s the way God gives Manny and I signs that everything will be okay. Also Dom’s name means belonging to the Lord so it was only right. In this room you can see how I continued the wood, black, and white decor throughout.”- Jen from @weremodelit

Pool/Kids’ Bathroom “Before” Photo.
“Not sure what to really call this bathroom. It is the bathroom that opens up to the pool but its also the bathroom for the three other rooms in the house that aren’t the master. In this bathroom we kept the subway tile style but added a beautiful frameless shower door which was a total must have for me. This bathroom was completely pink with a pink bathtub which we turned into a shower. I love that we were able to place a big vanity with double sinks because in the future when we have another child they can share and not fight over who brushes their teeth first, haha.” – Jen from @weremodelit
